Bums on a saddle

Put your bums on a saddle

Leave your imagination behind

Get ready for a demanding, exacting, taxing, stimulating experience

Be an eager rider

Motivated, powerful and consummate

Be ready for the unforeseen, the unpredictable and the unreckonable

No red carpet, no welcome, no warm hugs

Feel the freshness of the morning dew brushing against your face

The surge of pure oxygen against your cheeks

Explore the beauty of the land

The gravel on the road, the pot holes and the bumps

The sidewalks lined with fallen purple jamun fruits

Get hurt by the insult of the street dog (he doesn’t even bark when you pass him by)

The rush of adrenaline when you impishly jump every red light in the city

Stop only for a quick water or caffeine break or for pictures clicked on the Iphone

Observe the waving of fellow cyclists in brightly coloured attires

Looking like peacocks before a rain dance

A small blinking red light loosely strung behind a cyclist’s yellow florescent jacket

A bus bellowing thick black smoke in your face

The rain droplets forcing you to pedal faster

Let your senses absorb the surroundings

Pass through the entire city unnoticed, unexplained, unchallenged

Hear the hum of a city waking up to its sorrows, pains, joys and happiness

Keep moving

You are on your own

Your own trip

Your own turf

Your own rules

Your own creation

Your own supremacy (no one can touch you)

Put your bums on a saddle

Two wheels one behind the other

A pedal on each side

A straight handle bar

A saddle in the middle

Simple and uncomplicated

The sorcery is in the balance, in the mind

The rhythm, the process, the discipline repeated over and over again

Man and machine in perfect sync

The struggle, the ascent and the descent all moving you in one direction ; forward

Instant gratification

Makes you feel you are the creator of the universe

The Lord and the Master of the Kingdom

Flawless beauty in motion

Reach home hungry with your heart pumping

Burnt calories to count

The miles perfected

A rested mind

Imprint of tyre tracks and mud on the back of your T shirt

Plain bliss

An experience to share

A dare you care to brag about

The drops of sweat on your brow like hunting trophies

The memories transient and luminescent

Next morning

Start again

Put your bums on a saddle
